All Aboard the Polar Express!

Meleah and Austin  have always enjoyed the Polar Express so I surprised them a few days ago and invited them to a Polar Express Pajama Day.  I have to admit that I was really excited about it too. Have I mentioned that I absolutely love Christmas? :-)

We started our day by reading The Polar Express which was followed by a variety of language arts activities such as identifying the setting, characters, problem and solution in the story, looking at vocabulary and completing a writing activity.  The activity packages didn't get finished before it was time to move on to art but that can be added to Monday's plans.

One of the art projects that we made were decorative Christmas balls.  It was an idea that I borrowed from a Stampin Up workshop that I went to years ago.  We applied a rub on to the ornament and then filled it with a little bit of artificial snow and a sprinkle of glitter.  After adding ribbon of their choice, Meleah and Austin packaged them up to be given away as gifts.

Christmas tags were next on the agenda.  We used black chipboard tags and embellished them with vintage images from my mom's graphics shop (The Old Design Shop) , rub-ons, and ribbon.  Meleah
made a package of six to give away as a gift.

Although this hot cocoa craft may have been a little young for Austin and Meleah, they thought it was cute and what's a Polar Express Day without hot chocolate?  :-)  Materials and instructions can be found here:

After lunch we made real mugs of hot cocoa and got cozy to watch the movie.

The day was great and just flew by.
